Indonesia - Fiji - Australia - Philippines 2019/20
Well, what a fuck up this was!
We had a nice vacation planned with lots of locations booked and paid for, half of which were blown out the water when Covid struck.
The first part of the trip went fine, we dived in Bali, then Dived with sharks in Fiji, dived with the weedy dragons in Australia, then the highlight of the trip, diving in Truk Ladoon was cancelled when the government of the Federated States of Micronesia closed their borders due to Covid.
We had also booked a trip staying on 3 islands in the Sulawasi area of Indonesia, and a liveaboard to the Maluku Islands, non of which we could go to due to closures.
We started searching for places that were still open, and headed back to Amed in Bali. From Bali we went to Boracay, then Dauin and Cebu in the Philippines.
While we were in Cebu the Philippines started closing their borders, so we moved to a hotel close to the airport and David went to the airport every day trying to find a flight out of the country.
After 5 days of booking flights which were then cancelled as airports closed, we managed to get flights from Cebu to Seoul, then to New York, then to Montreal, then to St.John.
We got to our new home in a village called McAdam at 2.30am. We had just the clothes we had taken on holiday for Asian weather and a sweat shirt each we got at the airport in New York, and arrived to snow in shorts, sandals and sweat shirts!
